Artist Michael Cromwell

For Michael Cromwell, the camera is his gathering tool as objects found during treks through Hawaii's natural environment inspire him to create intimate photographic collages – visual poems to nature's delicate existence. Cromwell's digital imaging is a tribute to the ineffable beauty and mystery of nature's own fine art as reflected in something as simple as the graceful way she reclaims items that man has fashioned. Michael's artwork allows viewers to get up close and personal, witness sheer beauty, and feel a connection to nature.
Born in Detroit, his studies included Western Michigan University and The Art School of the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts. In 1975, he founded Cromwell Communications, a graphic design and visual communications firm. During the next 30+ years, he created award-winning designs for such high-profile corporations as: GM, Ford, Chrysler, Kellogg's, Little Caesar's, the Detroit Red Wings, to name a few. From 1983 to 1999, Cromwell taught Advanced Graphic Design and Environmental Graphics at The Center for Creative Studies in Detroit.
Michael and his wife, Terry, are residents of the Big Island in the District of North Kohala.
